Last Day in Haiti

Parents,

We just finished our final day at “Mission of Hope”. We started the day with a trip out to a local village to do a VBS and street evangelism. We then spent a half day out at the ocean, playing along the beautiful shores of Haiti. It was a great day filled with fun and some relaxing snorkeling. We are headed back tomorrow morning, thankful for your prayers.

Below are more updates:

“I’ve never experienced anything like this. The children are a joy to play with and the joy and spirit these kids have in the Lord is inspiring. It’s so fun doing the work projects with everyone; it’s truly an incredible experience.”
-Austin Jolesch

“This week I helped teach kids how to wash their hands and brush their teeth and that was just such a surprise to me that they didn’t know what that was or how to do it. Especially, when we all do that everyday and don’t think twice about it. It has also been incredible to see how much joy all the kids and Haitians have in worshiping the Lord. It’s all so genuine and passionate and it’s been really encouraging. I think that’s taught all of us that possessions and money and comfort really won’t bring us happiness.”
-Andrew Thornton

“Haiti has been incredible! The unconditional love and joy the kids have is amazing. You can clearly see and feel the Lords presence everyday, it’s so cool. It really has been such an incredible trip!” -Lily Alexander

“we went to a church service the other night and the worship part caught my attention. They were completely were abandoning themselves before Christ as they worshipped. The part that got me was that they had so much joy apparent in their worship but have absolutely nothing. It was obvious that They get what it really means to be satisfied in Christ.”
-Madeline Autrey

“Haiti has been an experience of a life time, which I hope I never forget. There are so many different things to be learned, and at the same time many memories being made. It is so humbling and encouraging to see these people with so little praising the same God we have. God has really opened my eyes towards my own heart to check and see if I am holding on to anything besides god for our identity. Watching them worship god makes it evident that they know how to connect with him even without having any possessions. God is so present here, and it’s just so exciting to see the hope they have. Also getting to share the gospel to non believers who listen so eagerly! It’s one of the greatest joys to share the gospel here to people who have never heard of Jesus!”
-Luke Ellerman

Haiti for me has been the most rewarding and life changing experience of my life. I know it’s no accident that I came here. It has really been a blessing getting to be with the people here and be a servant for people who don’t have anything. God is doing amazing things here and I hope that I can come back soon.
-Will Tarnasky

Haiti has been such a eye opener for me. The poverty and devastation is everywhere, although the people don’t have much they still have an unmistakable joy. This experience has made me so thankful for everything I have and has taught me to have joy in all situations.
-Alexis McDonald

“I went on this trip expecting to have a typical mission trip experience where God opens your eyes to a way of life you’ve never seen before. Everyone always says that God has a plan and His was different for me-I was sick the first two days of the trip. Through the frustration and helplessness, God gave me the time to truly figure out why I’m here and that I physically, mentally, and emotionally can not do this without fully relying on Him. I started feeling better after He helped me change my mindset. The main thing I’ve learned on this trip is that love brings life. The way that the Haitian kids light up and smile and laugh when we simply pick them up reminds me of the joy we find in Christ-we just have to ask Him to pick us up and we will find complete joy and hope in Him. Even though the things I learned here weren’t what I expected, I’m so thankful God gave me this opportunity to be in this country with these amazing people!”
-Maggie Washington

“The kids in Haiti really touch your heart. They don’t even know who you are or where you came from, but they run to you and jump in your lap, and just love on you. It’s so apparent that these kids need love, and we can give it to them. It’s been so rewarding for me to see the smiles on these kids faces, and I wish that I could take some home with me!”
-Kate Hauser

“I would trade all the air conditioning and the comforts of home for all this dirt and grime here in Haiti any day. This experience has grown me so much in my faith and has had such a big impact on me. Despite the trials and the hot days this trip has amounted to so much. Praise God for allowing this group to be a part of spreading his love to a place that needs so much. I pray that this experience will spur this group on to do great things in the lives of the ones in need at home.”
Lizzie Housewright

“God is wonderful. When we are just driving through the city and see so many smiling children all you can is just praise God. These people have the biggest smiles and the kids are the happiest kids I have ever seen. One of my highlights of the trip happens almost everyday, everytime I meet a kid the ask me if I follow Jesus. When I reply with a yes, they are just all lot up inside. I pray that this trip will continue to open my eyes and heart even in America.”

Students Making a Difference in Haiti

Wednesday morning

Parents,

After a great night last night at “Tuesday night church” we had a group Devo and headed to bed around 10am. This morning was another VBS and now we are headed out to paint homes for a few hours. Keep our ministry in your prayers, and Haiti in general. More students updates below:

“This trip to Haiti has been an awesome experience so far. The Haitian people have such a raw and open faith, so it has been great to watch them worship and genuinely praise the lord at church and in their everyday activities. They are all so friendly and eager to talk more about the lord!! It has encouraged me to be more welcoming of others and to share my faith without constraint!”
-Kathryn stouffer

“Bonjou! Our time in Haiti has been amazing. We have had the opportunity to love kids unconditionally and let our actions reflect Christ because we cant with our words. It’s so encouraging to get to serve alongside other students and see the love of Christ in the hugs and the high fives and our sad attempts at speaking creole. Can’t wait to bring the Haitian worship back to Dallas.”
-Kirby wags

“This trip has been such an eye opening experience. I have loved hanging with the kids and loving on them. They don’t have a lot of the comforts we have at home but yet they are still smiling and literally jumping for joy. It’s apparent they have put their hope in the Lord, and that’s definatley something that is worth smiling about. I feel very blessed to be here.” – Jillian Martin

“This trip to Haiti has been such a life changing opportunity. It’s been such a joy to just love on these kids and give them the love that they don’t receive everyday. It’s been incredible to see the way they worship and just how much love they have for the Lord at such a young age. I have been so encouraged and can see how my faith will be changed because of it. I am so blessed to be here!”

Students in Haiti Update

Monday Afternoon

This afternoon our students spent a few hours “clearing land” with machetes, rakes, and gloves. The land cleared will be used to create vegetable gardens for the 500 hundred families and their new homes. We have enjoyed lots of laughs, sunscreen, water, and time together. Below are more updates from some of our students.

“This time in Haiti has been a whole new experience… Currently typing in the back of a truck that resembles a jail cell. The lord is teaching me that all these kids need is us to love on them.. Wheather we speak the same language or not. We’re all tied together through our father.”
-Hannah brown

“It’s really a cool experience getting to be a part of this Haiti trip and witnessing the completely different lifestyles of the Haitians. I loved going to church on sunday, praising God all together even though we speak different languages and have such different lifestyles – we all need God just as much.” – Melissa Galvin

“I’ve enjoyed this time in Haiti so much! I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but it’s been incredible. I really liked church service on Sunday and hearing people praising God in completely two different languages. The kids are so sweet and just want to be held and loved on- it’s really incredible how God helps us communicate with them just through a smile or a hug. I’m looking forward to what the rest of the week brings!!”- Lindsey Dennis

“The trip has been awesome so far, I love how the kids are so friendly and will come up to you just wanting to play. Also my bros and I formed a band while on the trip so it’s been fun.” -Trevor Berry

“This trip has been amazing so far! The people are so incredible, they are so joyful and really love the lord with all they have. They truly know they’re need for Him, something that’s hard for me and a lot of people in America. The kids are so so cute and are a blast to be around. Despite all the hard things in this country, the lord is definitely at work! Can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store.”
Emily Walter

“I’m having a great time loving on and serving the Haitians. Wherever we go, the kids run up and ask our names wanting to jump up on our shoulders or “epaule.” there are eleven other awesome guys in my room. Well fed and not too hot. Can’t wait for tomorrow!”

Watermark STUDENTS in Haiti

Keep up to date with our students in Haiti here.

“I held a little baby! She was so sweet and didn’t want to leave me. Unfortunately, her other wanted her back.” -Morgan Ladd

“When we went to one of the villages, I befriended a small two year old who had fallen. As I picked her up, she called me her sister and told me she loved me, it made me realize how blessed I am to share the Lord with these sweet people.”-Delaney Seebold

“I woke up early this morning at 5 because of the roosters outside but there was a sunrise that was the one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Instead of going back to sleep I spent time with the lord, it was a great start to a great day.” -Molly Galvin

“Seeing the joy on the children’s faces when we pulled up on the buss was so encouraging. Even though it was raining that didn’t stop any of the children from greeting up with a big smile. The pure joy the kids got from the most simple of games like tag was so humbling. To see the kids laugh and play with such excitement was so encouraging.”-Dawson Burdette

“The energy from the kids is contagious and they show you how you don’t need worldly possessions to be happy, all you need is the Joy of Christ! It is so encouraging to see people with so little have so much true contentment and happiness!”- Bert McJunkin
