What a difference a day makes…the video

The stories have already started to come in about all the ways God moved today - in the hearts of our body who served, the folks in the communities that we were serving, and even our bus drivers.  Thanks for participating and watch for new opportunities in coming days.  In the meantime, check out the Service Day 2009 video.  Thanks to Steve and his Team!

If you have stories to share about service day, please post them here in response or e-mail them to one of the External Focus Team.  Humbled to be serving with you…

    Dear Watermark,

I am a transplant from Decatur, Texas to Richardson, Texas. My home church is Crosstimbers Church in Argyle. I find Crosstimbers as being a serving church; I am good friends with Rick White, a campus pastor for Argyle West. He was sharing with me about Watermark church and today was the day that the Lord laid on my heart to come. When I got there this morning I found myself a little distressed because of this day being a service day and I was not dressed for it, but I was not going to walk away because I know how good it feels to serve others.
As I started to follow the people to get on the buses, I found a friend who was willing to share with me a little more of what was going on. When we arrived at the high school I was amazed at how many people who were painting and cleaning, it seem like a thousand were there. I found myself helping in little areas like painting, taping and cleaning up. It really brought goodness to my heart and I know it really put an impressing light inside me to see the goodness in others.
For the rest of Sunday afternoon, I pondered whether to write to you or not and what God was speaking to me about this day.
I just feel that this is what Jesus wants us to do today to see the goodness around us and knowing God wants to bring good things to us.
It will be good news to hear the message from Watermark church next weekend.

    Have a blessed week,

    Bradley Stock

    1Chronicles 4:9-10
Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my border, and that thy hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it be not to my sorrow! And God granted him that which he requested.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT).

Today was awesome! I loved seeing what the Lord is doing in West Dallas. Mr. Henry’s work in the community is amazing! Better than providing affordable housing, they are transforming lives of the young men in the community. I went to a building site for Builders of Hope. Many of the Watermark volunteers helped to tear down an old house, but we had more volunteers than necessary, so many of us set out on foot into the neighborhood to pick up trash and talk to the neighbors.

The best part of the day was hearing the testimony of one of the men employed by Builders of Hope – Mohammad. Mohammad grew up in the neighborhood we were working. He told us the house we tore down was a drug house and the men who ran the house had a very profitable business. Mohammad was envious of the men who ran this house and wanted to find success like those men. Although the house looked like it was worth very little, he used to look at the house as if it were worth a million dollars. Mohammad was running with the wrong crowd and engaged in inappropriate business endeavors. After spiraling down, he ended up behind bars. About a year ago, Mohammad started working with Mr Henry for Builders of Hope. Since getting a second chance, and having good men surrounding him and encouraging him, Mohammad found a relationship with the Lord.

What an amazing day! Builders of Hope will have opportunities for volunteers to help on the build sites the second Saturday of each month. Come out and help transform West Dallas by building new houses and transforming lives.
